Core Vocabulary Signs

The Core Vocabulary signs reflect frequent activities and routines that learners experience on a daily basis.

Using signs consistently helps the learner to gain some understanding of what is about to happen and enables them to engage more fully in the activity.

Alert sign.

This is always used to begin an interaction regardless of the approach being used. It prepares the learners for the interaction that follows and helps reduce the likelihood of a startle reflex. The Alert sign provides a consistent cue that an action will follow and encourages the learner to engage and begin to anticipate.
